Dean Rowan Smith of St George's Cathedral, Cape Town to retire on 30 April 2010

After many years of faithful witness, worship and service and 14 years as Dean of St Georges Cathedral, Dean Rowan Smith will retire on the 30 April 2010.

We are grateful for Dean Rowan's ministry over these years and we wish him a joyful and just-busy-enough retirement, knowing that he will be missed. We pray that the Lord will continue to bless him, and continue to make him a blessing to others.

A process to appoint Dean Rowan's successor has officially started. In terms of our Diocesan Acts, a team of Parish Church Council, clergy and laity of the diocese under the leadership of Canon Mpho Ndebele, the Cathedral Chancellor, will convene to consider the names submitted to them by the Archbishop. A cathedral profile has been drawn up and can be downloaded within the next few days on the following Websites – www.stgeorgescathedral.com and www.capetown.anglican.org. If you seek more information or would like to advise on this process, please contact Canon Mpho Ndebele at peo@anglicanchurchsa.org.za or the Archbishop at archpa@anglicanchurchsa.org.za  This advice on the process or possible names will be treated confidentially. In the meantime, an interim priest will be appointed at the cathedral to join the team of clergy and laity as they lead the cathedral during the interregnum.
